Performance by Hiyas

We are pleased to announce that the Hiyas Philippine Folk Dance Company will be one of the performers at the Barrio Fiesta!

Created in March of 2003, the Hiyas Philippine Folk Dance Company was formed by dance enthusiasts that enjoy the beauty of Filipino folk dance. Following the statement of Philippine national artist and folk dance research pioneer Francisca Reyes-Aquino, "Let folk dances be as they are - of the folk. We can not sacrifice heritage for progress," Hiyas strives to present Filipino folk dance in its most traditional form in an era where authentic steps and movements are modernized or forgotten. The word hiyas (pronounced hee-yahs) means "jewel" or "gem," referring to how its members truly treasure Philippine folk arts and culture. Hiyas is proudly a part of the Filipino Youth Coalition, a non-profit organization geared toward cultural awareness among Filipino youth in the south bay. For more information on Hiyas, please visit their website at www.hiyas.org.

Our "winning" priest

It's official! Fr Ricky Manalo will be our presider for the Simbang Gabi mass! Yipee!

Fr. Ricky is a very famous composer. He wrote that song "Ang Katawan Ni Kristo", which we all love at St. Joseph. He also wrote a couple of other multi-cultural songs. His music is available at OCP's website or through ITunes.

The entire Simbang Gabi 2007 team is so excited! We're all looking forward to experiencing a great liturgy. We hope everyone can come and witness this wonderful moment!

Save the Date!

Attention Pinoys: We're gonna have a party!!!

We've already started planning this year's (one day) Simbang Gabi celebrations! Yipee!!! I'm so excited. TFC-SJ Queen Bee (Nanette) and the Wizard of Music (Mark) met with me yesterday to brainstorm over the theme. They liked my idea of having a Barrio Fiesta-inspired celebration. Alright!!!

We will have the traditional dawn mass at the Old Mission Church, which will be followed by an awesome Barrio Fiesta at the St. Joseph Church Parish Hall. So everyone, kindly start washing your Filipiniana clothes and practice wearing you bakyas. See you at the Mission on December 22, 2007 at 6 am!
